Entering Thursday's contest with Andes Central/Dakota Christian, the Mitchell Christian boys basketball team had lost five of its last six games.
But the Golden Eagles turned things around at home against the Thunder, winning 41-31 in a high school basketball contest.
Majok Kur had 14 points to pace the Eagles, who broke open a low-scoring game in the second half. The Golden Eagles were up 13-7 at halftime. Ethan Cooper had eight points and Alec Nelson had eight points.
Mitchell Christian coach Dennis Martin said the victory was a good one for the Golden Eagles.
"The kids came out ready to play and got after it," he said. "Defensively, we were strong. Anytime you can hold the other team to 31 points, you're going to have a good shot of winning the game."
JB Bruguier scored a game-high 16 points for the Thunder in the loss.
With a 6-foot-9 center in Kur, Martin acknowledged that MCS is making good use of its size and stopping their opponents from getting into the lane, forcing them to take their chances with the outside shot.
"That's a big key," he said. "We're not afraid to working things around the outside and shorten the game up on our end."
AC/DC won the junior varsity game 30-28.
Mitchell Christian improves to 4-5 on the season and will play at Avon on Tuesday. The Thunder (3-5) will host Parkston on Monday at New Holland.
