IROQUOIS -- Austin Bormann hit six 3-pointers and scored 24 points as the Mitchell Christian Golden Eagles won their opening game 74-30 over Iroquois on Friday in Iroquois.
MCS head coach Dennis Martin said he was encouraged by how his team played in the team's first game.
"We really wanted to emphasize being patient with the ball and things worked out for us," Martin said. "We jumped out to a 7-0 lead, and it went on from there. Overall, our kids played well, and I was happy with their defensive effort."
Majok Kur, a 6-foot-10 foreign exchange student from Sudan, made his debut for the Golden Eagles. Kur scored 14 points, pulled in 9 rebounds, blocked five shots and added six assists in the win.
"Majok played well for his first game in the United States," Martin said. "I think we moved the ball the way we wanted to, and there are still things we need to work on."
