STICKNEY-The Mitchell Christian boys basketball team had no answer for Cordel Menning and the balanced Corsica-Stickney Jaguars on Tuesday. The Golden Eagles lost to Corsica-Stickney 61-31 in the nonconference game in Stickney.

Menning, a 6-foot-4 senior forward, finished with 19 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and four blocked shots.

"We knew he would be a tough guard coming in," MCS coach Jesse Tolsma said. "We knew we wanted to sit hard on him in the paint. We had a few mental breakdowns."

Menning also had some help. The Jaguars (6-1) placed three other players in double figures. Gavin Zomer recorded 15 points, while Bryce Plamp had a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Jaden Barse added 10 points for Corsica-Stickney, which blew the game open with a 20-6 second-quarter burst.

"The big thing for us is we really want to continue to make defense our staple and tonight our defensive effort just wasn't quite what we needed it to be," Tolsma said. "That's an area we need to improve on."

Joey Feiner paced the Golden Eagles (3-5) with 11 points, while Ty Vander Pol had six rebounds. The Golden Eagles were outrebounded 40-22 and they committed 18 turnovers.

Corsica-Stickney hosts Kimball/White Lake on Friday in Stickney. Mitchell Christian hosts Andes Central/Dakota Christian on Thursday.

"We have to flip the page quick on this one and get our defense ready to go and get ready for another tough battle on Thursday," Tolsma said.
