PARKSTON - Bolstered by a triple play, Garretson picked up a non-league win against the Parkston Mudcats in amateur baseball on Friday 12-3.
Garretson scored five runs in the first inning and added three more in the second inning for an early lead. In the third inning with runners at first and second with nobody out, the Blue Jays' Dustin Steckler caught a line drive at second base and stepped on the bag before firing to first baseman Sam Johnson for the triple play, ending the Mudcats threat.
Zach Lukes had a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored for Garretson, who had 14 hits in the win. Nick Bonte, Brady Bonte and Johnston each had two-RBI games as well.
The Mudcats were led by Dillon Stadlman and Jeff Harris, both of whom had two hits. Matt Malloy had two runs scored and Harris, Neil Nagle and Dan Bonte accounted for the RBIs. Stadlman took the loss, allowing eight runs (four earned) on seven hits in two innings. Jake Weber threw the final seven innings, allowing seven hits, three earned runs and striking out seven.
The Mudcats (12-6) host Dimock-Emery at 8 p.m. Sunday at The Pond in Parkston.
