Lyman’s Flitner named WGPC conference MVP

KENNEBEC - Lyman’s Anna Flitner was named the Western Great Plains Conference most valuable player, it was announced Wednesday.
Flitner led the Raiders to a fifth-place finish at the Class B volleyball state tournament.
Flitner, a senior outside hitter, was also selected to the all-conference first team, along with freshman setter Sara Herman.
Senior setter Bailey Almond was selected to the second team, while senior middle hitter Jessica Welter was selected third team.
Dye named conference MVP

Bridgewater-Emery junior middle hitter Justine Dye was named the Cornbelt Confernce most valuable player, it was announced Wednesday.
Dye was also named to the all-conference first-team. Joining her on the first-team were teammate Chesney Arend, Hanson’s Kynedi Cheeseman and Sydney Dodd, Canistota’s Chloe Nielsen, Marion’s Erica Schoenwald and Freeman’s Shelby Jensen.
The second team is comprised of Marion’s Kaitlyn Engbrecth and Devin Nelson, Hanson’s Leah Marsh, Howard’s Taylor Noid, Canistota’s Morgan Larson, Bridgewater-Emery’s Tiana Kayser and Freeman’s Nicole Hinckley.
SDSU falls to
No. 5 Stanford

PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico - The South Dakota State University women’s basketball team fell to No. 5 Stanford 80-60 Thursday at the Puerto Vallarta Hardwood Tournament of Hope.
The Jackrabbits trailed 40-19 at halftime, before scoring 41 points in the second half.
Stanford outrebounded SDSU 41-28. The Jackrabbits were led by junior guard/forward Megan Waytashek, who tallied 13 points.
Junior forward Megan Stuart came off the bench for 11 and Mitchell native and freshman guard Kerri Young added seven points and two rebounds after going 3-for-7 from the field.
Stanford was led by senior forward Chiney Ogwumike, who recorded a double-double. Ogwumike scored 29 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Junior guard Amber Orrange chipped in with 13 points.
On Wednesday the Jackrabbits defeated Texas Christian University in the first game of the tournament 57-52.
Young was 2-for-5 from the field with six points in 21 minutes of play.
SDSU (4-3) plays Florida Gulf Coast at 1:30 p.m. today in the final game of the tournament.
Lyman’s Cropsey named to WGPC all-conference football team

KENNEBEC - Lyman running back Korder Cropsey was named to the Western Great Plains Conference all-conference football team, it was announced Wednesday.
The sophomore running back was the only Raiders player to make first team. Senior wide receiver Harley Hoogendorn and senior defensive end Alec Terca were both named honorable mentions for Lyman, which finished the season 1-7.
