HURON-A four-run seventh inning carried the Mitchell High School baseball team past Huron 5-2 on Thursday in Huron.

The Kernels (8-1) trailed the Tigers 2-1 heading into the final inning before earning the win.

"We were finally able to get some hits," MHS head coach Luke Norden said about the seventh-inning. "We couldn't break through with a hit when runners when in scoring position early in the game. It was a big inning for us."

Jed Schmidt led off the top of the seventh inning with a double and scored on a bunt single by Sam Michels. Bryce Geraets drove in Michels with an RBI single and scored on a Huron error. Drew Kitchens had a single and scored on a wild pitch in the inning for the Kernels' fourth run of the inning. Mitchell left 12 runners on base in the contest.

"Huron did a good job of throwing the ball and their infield defense played really well, too," Norden said.

Huron scored two runs in the bottom of first inning, but starting pitcher Briggs Havlik kept the Tigers off the board the rest of the way. Havlik ended allowing two unearned runs off five hits in six innings pitched to earn the win.

"We had two big errors in the first inning," Norden said. "(Briggs) is looking really powerful as far as his velocity. He's been doing a great job."

Spencer Neugebauer picked up the save by tossing a scoreless seventh inning and finished the game win a run scored.

"We need to continue doing what we are doing and stay even keeled," Norden said. "We can't get too up or too down. Just continue playing the way we have mentally too."

Mitchell hosts Douglas at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at Drake Field.
