Four Mitchell area athletes place first at Floyd Farrand

SIOUX FALLS -- Four Mitchell area wrestlers earned first-place finishes at the Floyd Farrand Invitational on Tuesday in Sioux Falls.

Howard's Luke Loudenburg, Wagner's Trevor Lensing and Parkston's Blake Bietz and Miles Semmler each won their respective weight class at the 18-team, two-day event.

Loudenburg, wrestling at 138 pounds, won a 4-2 decision over Sioux Falls Roosevelt's Brock Kortan to remain undefeated with a record of 17-0. Lensing (182) pinned Wyatt Resmen of Brookings, while Bietz (145) edged Howard's Bailey Neises 5-2. Semmler (195) pinned Sturgis's Payson Dirk to help the Trojans earn second place overall with 178.5 points.

"We're going against some of the toughest competition in South Dakota," Parkston first year head coach James Boehmer said. "Getting the top five in this tournament, you're doing pretty good. Of course we would have liked to finish at the top, but there's always room for improvement."

Boehmer also said he was satisfied to see Bietz and Semmler come away with championships.

"It was a great day for Blake," Boehmer said. "He's one of the top rated kids in the state. Blake started off a little slow, but he's strolling into midseason form and has all the tools to get the job done.

"As for Miles, he's one of our leaders on the team, he went out there and dominated and got the job done. He's a good example of what our team is all about."

First-year Wagner head coach Brad Lhotak said that he was happy to see Lensing win his weight class, but that this is just the beginning for him.

"I thought he wrestled really well throughout the whole tournament," Lhotak said. "He did a lot of things right, and he needs to just keep working. I think he's got bigger things in mind (for this year), but this is definitely a big plus for the season."

Sioux Falls Roosevelt won the event with a score of 182 points.
