CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — No. 21 South Dakota improved to 5-2 on the season with a 34-21 win at No. 16 Northern Iowa Saturday at the UNI-Dome.

It was the Coyotes' first win in Cedar Falls in eight years and improved USD to 3-1 in the Missouri Valley Football Conference.

The Coyotes rushed 51 times for 161 yards and two touchdowns behind the 1-2 tandem of Travis Theis, who surpassed 100 yards for the second straight game, and Nate Thomas. Theis rushed for 113 yards on 21 carries. Quarterback Carson Camp was 16 for 21 passing for 153 yards and two touchdowns, helping build a 24-0 halftime lead on the Panthers.

UNI (3-3, 1-2 Valley) cut the lead to 24-14 early in the first half but the Coyotes answered with the next 10 points, including a Thomas touchdown run late in the third quarter.

South Dakota returns to the DakotaDome for a 1 p.m. kickoff Saturday against Illinois State.
