MITCHELL — The Class B portion of the South Dakota Amateur Baseball Association’s state tournament will fill in over the weekend, with the final district tournament games to be played Saturday and the bracket to be announced on Sunday.
The Class B state tournament is set to begin on Wednesday, Aug. 3 at Cadwell Park. Check back with mitchellrepublic.com for updates throughout the weekend.
Here’s a breakdown by district of who’s in and what’s still to be decided, with the number of available bids in parentheses for each district:
District 1B (5): The Eastern Dakota League’s contingent will include the district champion Milbank Firechiefs, along with the Aurora Aces, Castlewood Monarchs, Lake Norden Lakers and the Volga Cormorants.
District 2B (3): The smallest Class B district will send both Redfield Dairy Queen and the Redfield Pheasants, along with the Northville Merchants. The Pheasants won the District 2B title with an 8-7 walkoff triumph on Thursday over Redfield DQ.

District 3B (5): The district champion Plankinton Bankers lead the contingent from the Pony Hills League. They are joined by Four Corners, Kimball/White Lake Nationals, the Plankinton Gold Sox and the Wessington Springs Owls. The Gold Sox claimed the last berth on Thursday night with a 15-4 victory over Colome, which was the No. 3 seed in the district tournament.
District 4B (7): The Canova Gang, Dell Rapids Mudcats, Hartford/Humboldt Gamecocks and Madison Broncos have already qualified. On Friday, Flandreau and Lennox Only One sealed up bids , leaving Dell Rapids PBR and Salem to play in the last-chance game at 4 p.m. Saturday in Dell Rapids. Canova and Hartford/Humboldt play for the district title on Saturday night.
District 5B (5): The Sunshine League’s Alexandria Angels, Dimock/Emery Raptors, Mount Vernon Mustangs and Winner/Colome Pheasants are bound for Mitchell. Platte claimed the final berth in the district in a 9-6 win over Corsica/Stickney on Friday night, followed by Alexandria knocking off Winner/Colome in the district title game by a 4-1 score.
District 6B (4): Freeman Blacksox, Menno Mad Frogs, Tabor Bluebirds, Wynot (Neb.) Expos will represent the South Central League, with Freeman and Wynot playing for the district title on Saturday night in Freeman. Of note, No. 1 district seed Lesterville did not qualify after being defeated 5-4 by Menno on Thursday in 11 innings.
District 7B (3): Garretson Bluejays and Larchwood (Iowa) Diamonds will play in the district title game on Saturday, already assured of Class B state berths. Akron (Iowa) and Elk Point will play for the final spot from the district on Saturday.
