Early inning woes doom Kernels in sweep by Lynx


BRANDON -- The Mitchell High School softball team gave up 16 runs combined in the first two innings in a doubleheader against Brandon Valley on Tuesday.

In Game 1, the Lynx scored nine runs in the first inning to cruise to a 12-0 win in four innings, while scoring all five of their runs in the first two frames to edge the Kernels 5-0 in three innings in Game 2 .

The Kernels walked seven batters and gave up four hits in the first frame and it approved to be their undoing in Game 1. Meanwhile, the Lynx surrendered just one hit in the game, coming from Keirstyn Krcil.

Krcil and Kennedy Wantoch combined to allow 12 earned runs on 10 hits and eight walks in four innings in the circle.

In Game 2, Brandon Valley outhit Mitchell, 6-4, but the Kernels could not move a runner past first base in the game.


Krcil, Wantoch, Madelyn Henglefelt and Ally Barlean each totaled a hit apiece.

Mitchell (2-13) travels to Brookings on Monday.
