Dakota Wesleyan University senior Tamika Irvin was named an NAIA All-American Friday at the national track and field meet in Marion, Ind.
Irvin ran an 11.94 in the 100-meter dash to take fifth place in the event. The top eight placers in each event are All-American.
"My start was not anything close to where it should have been, but I didn't have to play catch-up too bad," Irvin said. "I ended up running pretty fast."
The winning time was Jura Levy's mark of 11.35. Irvin will also compete today at the national meet in the semifinals for the 200 dash. She has the second best mark going into the race, and she needs to get in the top nine places to make the finals.
DWU's Derik Fossum will also be attempting to become an All-American today in the triple jump.
