GREENEVILLE, Tenn. -- The Dakota Wesleyan University women's golf team sits in 23rd place after day one at the NAIA Women's Golf National Championships Tuesday in Greeneville, Tenn.
The Tigers shot a 333 through the first 18 holes while Shorter (Ga.) leads the field after carding a 298.
"We didn't play as well as we would have thought," DWU coach Adam Anderson said. "We're probably one of the youngest teams in the field and some of that inexperience showed."
Senior Dani Bellet sits in 38th place after the opening round and leads all Dakota Wesleyan golfers.
Bellet shot a 77, the same score she recorded last year on her way to a runner-up finish.

"She got off to a rough start," Anderson said. "She was four over through four holes and finished five over.
"I was pretty proud of the way she hung in there after a rough start with all the pressure on her."
Anderson said he expects Bellet to finish strong.
Dakota Wesleyan tees off for round two at 12:50 CDT today. Anderson said the team's goal is to make it into the top 17, which is the number of teams that make the day-three cut and are allowed to compete in the final round.
If the team doesn't make the cut, only the players in the top 40 of the individual standings compete in the final round.
Bellet is currently the only Tigers' golfer in the top 40. Kamie Roesler shot the second-best score of DWU in round one with an 83, which is good for 98th in the individual standings.
Chelsea Burback recorded an 83 in the opening round, while Jenna Winckler carded an 87 and Talia Peters scored a 95.
