DWU volleyball wins a pair of Florida matches in first action of season

The Tigers took down two opponents, including the season opener via a three-set sweep

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — No. 15-ranked Dakota Wesleyan volleyball opened its season up with a pair of wins at the Chick-fil-A Classic tournament in Florida on Thursday.

The Tigers took down Georgetown (Ky.) in the first match of the season 3-0 before beating Columbia International (S.C.) 3-1.

In the first match against Georgetown, set scores were 25-10, 25-18 and 25-9. Ady Dwight and Abigail Brunsing paced the team with nine kills, while Madeline Else had a team-best 30 assists. Hannah Reiff led the way with 17 digs.

Against Columbia International — which was an NAIA tournament qualifier — in 2021 the Tigers emerged with a four set win, with set scores 24-26, 25-17, 25-15 and 25-17. Four Tigers posted double digit kills, including Dwight who had a team-high 21 on 42 swings. She also added a solo block and six block assists. Else had 54 assists and Reiff was one of three players with double-digit digs, leading the way with 19.

DWU has Friday off in Florida before taking the court on Saturday, Aug. 20 against Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) at 11 a.m. followed by a ranked matchup against No. 20 Columbia (Mo.) at 3 p.m. to round out the tournament.
