DWU volleyball upsets Concordia University in five-set thriller

The Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball team outlasted Concordia University in a five-set thriller on Saturday at the Corn Palace.

The Tigers edged the Bulldogs, who are third in the GPAC standings, 22-25, 25-18, 25-21, 15-25 and 15-12. Concordia (7-3, 7-3 GPAC) was also a national qualifier last season, finishing the season with a 25-8 mark.

On Saturday, the Tigers (9-6 GPAC) received 17 kills from Ady Dwight and 15 kills from Mariah Gloe. Mitchell graduate Mackenzie Miller followed with 11 kills. McKenzie Busker added nine kills.

Defensively, Dannielle Bruns posted 20 digs and Gloe added 13 digs. Madeline Else dished out 52 assists.

In the decisive fifth set, the Tigers built a 12-7 advantage. But the Bulldogs rattled off five straight points to even it at 12-12. However, a Concordia serving error and hitting error put DWU ahead, 14-12. Dwight then capped off the victory with her 17th kill of the night.
