DWU volleyball swept by Midland

Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball failed to find its footing on Friday at the Christen Athletic Center as seventh-ranked Midland University swept it in straight sets. Set scores were 25-10, 25-17 and 25-14.

Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball failed to find its footing on Friday at the Christen Athletic Center as seventh-ranked Midland University swept it in straight sets. Set scores were 25-10, 25-17 and 25-14.

The Warriors used fast starts to put away the Tigers early in the first and third sets. In the first set, Midland jumped out to an early 15-3 lead, while it held leads of 6-2 and 11-5 to begin the final set. DWU hung around for longer in the second set, though with it down 10-7, Midland went on a 9-5 run to extend its lead as it never let the Tigers get closer than five points the rest of the set.

Rebecca Frick recorded 12 kills, eight digs and an ace for the Tigers, while Mallory Cooper had a team-high 10 digs. Bridgett Knobbe tallied 18 assists, as well. The Warriors served eight aces as a team, including three from Jenny Bair who also had 11 kills and six digs.

DWU (11-8, 1-6) hosts Concordia University at 3 p.m. today at the Christen Athletic Center.
