VALLEY CITY, N.D. -- The Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball team rallied for a season-opening win, and then completed its perfect Saturday with a sweep.
The Tigers erased a two-set deficit to top Mayville State (N.D.), 26-28, 17-25, 25-16, 25-21 and 15-10. They only needed three sets to down Valley City State (N.D.), 25-20, 27-25 and 25-19 to begin the season 2-0.
Against Mayville State, DWU won the decisive fifth set by jumping out to a quick 8-2 lead. Mayville State closed the gap to 13-10, but Burke native Taylee Indahl’s kill and an attacking error provided the Tigers with the match-clinching points.
Mariah Gloe put down a team-high 20 kills to go with nine digs in the win. Mitchell native Mackenzie Miller and McKenzie Buisker recorded 13 and nine kills, respectively, while Madeline Else dished out 53 assists and 20 digs in the win. Hanna Reiff chipped in a team-high 33 kills. Former Lyman high school standout Sara Herman and Tya Weideman both had 12 digs, as well.
In a sweep over Valley City State, DWU won a close second set by staving off a rally. The Tigers led 15-10, but VCSU tied the match at 16-16, and then took a 25-24 lead. Jadie DeLange and Ady Dwight both put down a kill, while Herman served an ace to close out the set.

Miller led the Tigers with 12 kills and Dwight added nine kills. Else recorded 38 assists and 14 digs, while Reiff chipped in 21 digs and Weideman added 12 digs.
DWU (2-0) plays Presentation at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Aberdeen.
