ORANGE CITY, Iowa -- After taking the first set, the Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball team dropped the final three sets in a four-set loss at Northwestern (Iowa) on Wednesday in Great Plains Athletic Conference play. The Tigers fell 17-25, 25-23, 25-16 and 25-20.
DWU won the first five points of the match and built an 8-1 lead, guiding it to a comfortable set win even as it became more back-and-forth. Mitchell native Mackenzie Miller had the set-clinching kill. She finished with 12 kills.
In the second set, Maria Gloe’s kill tied it at 22-22, but Northwestern won three of the next four points to tie the match. Northwestern didn’t relinquish the momentum, as it won the final two sets.
Ady Dwight had a team-high 21 kills, while Madeline Else dished out 52 assists to go with 11 digs. Hanna Reiff added 20 digs and Gloe finished with nine kills and nine digs. Sara Herman and Dannielle Burns both chipped in 10 digs.
DWU (8-6, 4-6 GPAC) hosts Concordia (Neb.) at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Corn Palace.
