The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team was picked to finish 11th out of 12 teams in the Great Plains Athletic Conference preseason coaches poll announced on Thursday.
DWU totaled 32 points in the voting.
Doane, which was picked as the favorite to win the GPAC, finished with 121 points and 11 first place votes. Hastings was tabbed second by the coaches with 98 points while Morningside was picked third with 93 points. Northwestern garnered the remaining first place vote and was picked to finish fourth with 91 points. Concordia, the GPAC tournament champion last year, was picked fifth with 87 points.
Points were awarded on an 11-1 basis and coaches' could not vote for their own team.
DWU opens its season on Feb. 5.
