DWU soccer teams land in bottom half of preseason GPAC coaches polls

The DWU mens team was ranked 11th out of 12 teams in the preseason Great Plains Athletic Conference coaches poll, while the womens team was placed ninth out of the 13 teams.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — The Great Plains Athletic Conference released its preseason coaches poll for both men's and women's soccer on Monday, Aug. 15, with Dakota Wesleyan University's teams each projected for bottom half finishes.

Dakota Wesleyan was in 11th place out of the 12 teams for the men's poll, receiving 32 points after finishing 4-13-1 last year. The women's team, which ended last season at 9-7-2 and made the GPAC tournament quarterfinals, fared slightly better, placing ninth out of 13 with 56 points.

Northwestern is the No. 1 team in the men’s poll, collecting eight of the 12 first-place votes, while Jamestown sits atop the women’s preseason poll, racking up 11 of the 13 possible votes.

The women's team starts its season Thursday, Aug. 18, against Bellevue in Bellevue, Nebraska, at 4:30 p.m. while the men's team starts at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, at home against Mount Marty.
