DWU men ride fast start to win over Dickinson State

DICKINSON, N.D. -- The Dakota Wesleyan University men’s basketball team’s fast start powered it to a 87-72 win over Dickinson State (N.D.) on Friday.

DWU broke open a 22-18 game with a 21-6 run in the first half. The Tigers took a 51-37 lead into halftime, and then outscored Dickinson State 36-35 in the second half.

Four Tigers scored in double-digits, including Nick Harden’s team-high 26 points on 8-for-15 shooting, as he also chipped in five assists and two steals. Emery native Sawyer Schultz added 16 points, while Koln Oppold had a 16-point, 14-rebound double-double off the bench. Oppold also added five steals and three assists in the win.

Mason Larson and Jeffrey Schuch had 10 and eight points, respectively, as well in the win. They helped DWU shoot 50.8 percent from the field and 14-for-32 from 3-point range.

Meanwhile, the Tigers overcame Dickinson State shooting 50.9 percent from the field. Bryce Knox had 23 points in the loss, while Trey Hladky added 16 points.

DWU (4-1) hosts Dakota State University at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Corn Palace.
