DWU men outlast Dordt in double overtime

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa -- Dakota Wesleyan University and Dordt College picked up where they left off from last season.

The Tigers edged the Defenders, 80-78, in double overtime of a Great Plains Athletic Conference men’s basketball game Wednesday.

DWU outlasted Dordt in both meetings last season by 79-78 and 71-70 margins. DWU once again edged the Defenders and withstood a Cade Bleeker 3-pointer to do it.

The Tigers (3-1, 2-0 GPAC) took a 67-64 lead on a Jeffrey Schuch offensive putback with 6 seconds left in the first overtime. After a timeout, Dordt pushed the ball up the court and Bleeker buried a 3-pointer with 0.1 seconds left.

In the second overtime, Schuch gave the Tigers a 77-76 advantage with 47 ticks left. DWU finished it out at the free-throw line, while Mason Larson’s offensive putback gave the Tigers an 80-76 lead with 19 seconds remaining.

Nick Harden paced the Tigers with 21 points on 9 of 18 shooting from the field. Schuch added 18 points on 9 of 14 shooting from the field. Larson added 10 points and 11 rebounds. Ace Zorr nailed 3 3-pointers and scored nine points, while Sawyer Schultz tossed in eight points and grabbed five rebounds.

The Tigers host Hastings College at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Corn Palace.
