DWU guard Bergh named GPAC player of week

Dakota Wesleyan University junior guard Trae Bergh, of Crooks, was named the Great Plains Athletic Conference men's basketball player of the week, it was announced Tuesday.

Bergh scored 32 points in a 90-74 victory over No. 2 Midland University on Saturday at the Corn Palace in Mitchell. The win helped DWU to an 11-0 start (4-0 GPAC). In the win over Midland, DWU shot a near school-record 63.5 percent from the field. “Congratulations to Trae for the weekly GPAC award,” DWU Head Coach Matt Wilber said in a press release. “He had a very good week and a great game against Midland. We are lucky to have him at our school and our program as he represents us the right way all of the time.” Bergh was 11-of-15 from the field and 6-of-10 from behind the three-point line for the Tigers against Midland, while adding a team-high seven assists, four rebounds and two steals. The win over Midland followed another victory for the Tigers over a top GPAC team in No. 11 Morningside College last Wednesday. Bergh scored 13 points, along with six assists and two 3-pointers against the Mustangs. Bergh has played a big role this season for a Tiger team that is leading the NAIA Division II in field goal percentage (55.6 percent), is third in 3-pointers made per game (11.2) and third in scoring offense (95.8 points per game). The Tigers continue their march through the GPAC schedule with a tough road test against Dordt College at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Sioux Center, Iowa.
