DWU baseball tabbed seventh in GPAC preseason poll

The Dakota Wesleyan University baseball team was tabbed to finish seventh in the Great Plains Athletic Conference coaches poll, which was released on Thursday.

The Dakota Wesleyan University baseball team was tabbed to finish seventh in the Great Plains Athletic Conference coaches poll, which was released on Thursday.

The Tigers, the defending GPAC tournament champions, finished with 47 points in the voting.

Doane was picked to win the GPAC with 87 points and two first-place votes. Morningside finished second with 86 points and had five first place votes, while Briar Cliff was picked third with 84 points and the remaining four first place votes

Northwestern and Midland tied for fourth with 68 points in the voting, while Mount Marty was picked sixth with 49 points. Hastings was picked eighth with 44 points, Concordia was picked ninth with 42 points and Nebraska Wesleyan and Dordt tied for 10th with 15 points each.

Points were awarded on an 10-1 basis and coaches' could not vote for their own team.

The GPAC baseball season will consist of 20 games (10 doubleheaders) and conclude with the GPAC Postseason Tournament featuring two four-team tournaments (Seeds 1,4,5,8 and Seeds 2,3,6,7) (double elimination) on May 5-7 at the sites of the top two seeds.

DWU opens its season on February 13.
