District volleyball roundup 11/9/13: Blackhawks, Beavers, WiLdKats advance to region tourneys

HURON - The Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Blackhawks swept Wolsey-Wessington to claim the District 6B volleyball tournament title Friday in Huron.

Set scores were 25-23, 25-18, 25-9.

The Blackhawks (17-10) advance to play District 5B champion Arlington Tuesday in the Region 3B championship. The winner earns a berth to the Class B state tournament.

Leading the way for SCW was Marissa Weber with 15 kills and five blocks. Rachel Selland recorded 20 assists and three aces, Morgan Selland had eight kills and 12 digs and Savannah Swenson added a team-best 17 digs and two aces.

Meagan Eggleston had four kills and five blocks, while Bailey Zerfoss recorded six digs in the loss. Brittany Bergquist also had five blocks.

Wolsey-Wessington ends its season 13-12.

Hanson 3, Ethan 1
ALEXANDRIA - Kynedi Cheeseman led the Hanson Beavers to the District 8B volleyball championship Friday after beating Ethan 25-18, 25-15, 25-27, 25-21.

Hanson (24-1) moves on to the Region 4B championship Tuesday when it plays Chester Area for a spot in the Class B state tournament.

Cheeseman had a match-high 21 kills and 28 digs for a double-double, while Hailey Doyle added 28 assists and four aces. Sydney Dodd had 12 kills, Emily Brown tallied 18 assists and Leah Marsh chipped in with 26 digs.

Ethan’s Holley Lindeman had 31 assists and 13 digs for a double-double. Darbi Gustafson added 16 kills, eight digs, three blocks and one ace and Anna Mueller recorded seven digs, nine kills and one block in the loss.

Ethan ends its season 19-7.

Kimball/White Lake 3, Platte-Geddes 0
NEW HOLLAND - Kimball/White Lake advanced to the Region 6B volleyball tournament after defeating Platte-Geddes in three sets Friday during the District 11B championship game.

Set scores were 25-17, 25-20, 25-12.

The WiLdKats (18-7) take on Gregory in the Region 6B championship Tuesday for a Class B state tournament berth.

Mary Kroupa led the way for KWL with a match-high 29 assists and six aces. Ivy Haines tallied 10 kills, Haley Pazour had nine kills and nine digs and Jazmyn Hinker added a team-best 13 digs and nine aces. Anna Pazour had nine digs in the win.

Platte-Geddes’ Madi Whalen had a team-high 11 assists and added four kills and one block. Josie DeGrott recorded eight kills, eight digs and two blocks, Brianna Erickson had 12 digs and five kills and Shelby Johnson chipped in with 12 kills, two aces and one block.

Platte-Geddes ends its season 14-14.

Parker 3, Scotland 1
SCOTLAND - Parker defeated Scotland 23-25, 25-12, 25-11, 25-11 for the District 9B volleyball championship Friday.

Parker plays Alcester-Hudson in the Region 5B championship Tuesday. Parker (26-4) was led by Allison Sanner with 17 kills, 17 digs and two blocks for a double-double. Jenny Smith had 38 assists and 11 digs for a double-double and Rylie Chistensen had 15 kills and three blocks.

Scotland ends its season 12-17.
