REDFIELD-Dell Rapids scored five runs in the fifth inning to help push it past Groton, 7-3, to start the Class B Legion baseball state tournament on Friday.
Jake Rechtenbaugh had two hits for Dell Rapids. Josh Roemen struck out six and allowed an earned run on three hits over five innings to earn the win.
Groton's day at the plate was highlighted by Luke Thorson's home run in the second. Alex Morris took the loss, giving up five earned runs and striking out six in his 3 2/3-inning start.
Spearfish 6, Dakota Valley 4
REDFIELD-Spearfish opened the Class B Legion baseball state tournament on Friday with a win over Brandon Valley.

Parker Louks led Spearfish at the plate, finishing with two hits and two RBIs. Zach Kozel earned the win as he allowed four earned runs and nine hits over five innings. Louks also got the save.
For Dakota Valley, Nate Rice finished with two hits and Luke Johnson had two RBIs. Kyle Windeshausen suffered the loss as he conceded five runs (three earned) and six hits.
Big Stone City 9, Redfield 4
REDFIELD-Powered by 13 hits and two three-run innings, Big Stone City opened the Class B Legion baseball state tournament with a win over Redfield on Friday.
Nathan Strong had three hits for Big Stone City, while Bryce Hoffman and Austin Kipp each had two hits and two RBIs. Elijah Choose earned the win, allowing four earned runs in 6 1/3 innings.
For Redfield, Peyton Osborn finished 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. Kevin Krumm took the loss as he allowed eight runs (six earned) in a four-inning start.
