The tale of a Mitchell man's theft of a 10-point whitetail buck from the back of a vehicle last December in Mount Vernon recently appeared in a national hunting magazine.

Bryan J. Buck, 27, was sentenced to 60 days in jail with 58 days suspended and 12 months of probation for the taking the buck from the vehicle of Mount Vernon resident Kenny Hostler.

Buck was also fined $384 and ordered to pay damages of $250 to Hostler and another $1,000 for unlawful possession of big game.

The Daily Republic reported the theft after it occurred in December. A brief summary of the story appeared in the February issue of American Hunter, a national hunting magazine.

The theft happened when Buck drove on to Hostler's land without permission. He had been driving a four-wheeler along a nearby railroad. Buck was arrested shortly after the theft occurred and charged with petty theft, criminal trespass and unlawful entry of a motor vehicle.
