The Dakota Wesleyan University women's golf team is teeing off at the NAIA Women's Golf National Championships at 7:30 a.m. today in Greenville, Tenn.

The team is making its ninth-consecutive trip to the national tournament and hoping to place better than last year, when the team took 22nd place.

Dani Bellet took second in the individual competition last year, finishing four strokes behind Kylie Barros of British Columbia.

Both golfers return to the field this year. DWU head coach Adam Anderson said he's hoping Bellet can finish her career with the Tigers with a championship.

"She's playing well and she has all the tools to win," Anderson said.

Bellet won the long-drive competition among all the tournament competitors on Monday.

Anderson said the tournament has not had a cut the last couple of years, however this year after three rounds of play only the top 17 teams and top 40 individual golfers will continue for the final round.

"It would be nice if we could make the cut," Anderson said. "We have a good enough team where if we play our normal game we should be able to do that."

Anderson said if the team plays as well as they did in their final practice round on Monday, the team should be in the top 15.

"We've got a good mix of experienced players and we have two freshmen that are playing pretty good golf," he said. "They know what to expect and to be patient, it's a long week."

The tournament being today and runs through Friday.

The five golfers competing for the Tigers this week are Bellet, Chelsea Burback, Kamie Roesler, Talie Peters and Jenna Winckler.
