NEW HOLLAND -- The Dakota Christian and Andes Central school boards have approved for the schools to enter into negotiations concerning a future co-op.
Dakota Christian Athletic Director Chad Bietz said Wednesday that committees -- which consist of school board members, athletic directors and parents -- will meet to discuss whether a co-op is something that should be proposed.
"We'd like to see it happen," Bietz said. "If we agree, the school boards need to approve the action, then we have to take it to the (South Dakota High School Activities Association) before the Jan. 9 football deadline."
This season, Dakota Christian was in a co-op with Platte-Geddes for football and competitive cheer. Bietz said if Dakota Christian stayed in that co-op, Platte-Geddes would move up to a Class A school.
"They've decided to stay in Class B," Bietz said, adding Dakota Christian has been looking to co-op in all sports in the last few years. "We just assume not co-op but unfortunately, our numbers are very low and we need to (co-op) to field every level."

Bietz said Andes Central met the criteria the Dakota Christian school board was looking for.
"They're low on numbers too, and basically, it'd be a good fit," he said.
If the schools decide to go through with the co-op and it is approved by the boards and SDHSAA, Bietz said the co-op will begin for golf and track and field this spring. The full co-op would be in full swing for the 2015-16 season.
