WATERTOWN — Mitchell High School's cross country teams were in action on Thursday at the Watoma Invitational at Cattail Crossing Golf Course.

Mitchell's top girls finisher in the varsity race was Kennedy Olsen, who finished in 61st place in a time of 22 minutes and 15 seconds. Alexis Daley was 63rd in a time of 22:17, followed by Aspen Evers in 76th place (23:19). In the team scoring, Mitchell was last in the 10-team field, scoring 273 points.

The girls varsity race was won by Sioux Falls Lincoln's Ali Bainbridge in a time of 17:42, with the Patriots edging Brandon Valley for the team title with 41 points to the Lynx's 46.

In the boys varsity race, Brock Russell was the top Kernel finisher, posting a time of 19:07 for an 83rd place finish. Elijah Schroeder (95th, 19:43), Owen Raml (97th, 19:59) and Brennan Penne (98th, 20:07) were among Mitchell's other top runners on Thursday.

Aberdeen Central won the boys team race with 68 points ahead of Lincoln (82) and Brandon Valley (98). Mitchell had 377 points to finish 12th.

In the junior varsity races, Mitchell's Talli Peschong finished 14th (18:42) in a girls 4,000-meter race won by Brandon Valley's Lillian Rude (16:32). Mya Vogel (44th, 20:28) and Mallory Fortin (49th, 21:02) were top-50 finishers in the race. In the boys JV race, Mitchell's Carter Lee was 46th in a time of 16:11 at 4,000 meters, which was won by Lincoln's Will Sugrue (14:24).

In the 3,000-meter middle-school level runs, Ryan Haiar (21st, 11:43) and Jakobi Brink (24th, 11:44) were boys top-25 finishers, and Averie London (25th, 13:34) and London Hajek (29th, 13:46) were top Kernels in the girls race.

Mitchell's next varsity action will be the Eastern South Dakota Conference meet on Saturday, Oct. 9 at McHardy Park in Brandon.
