PICKSTOWN — The Mitchell Christian boys cross country team emerged victorious at the Wagner Cross Country meet Monday afternoon at the Randall Hills Country Club.

The Golden Eagles edged Gregory with 13 points to the Gorillas’ 14. Hanson was third with 27 points.

Gregory junior Luke Sinclair won the race in 19 minutes, 47 seconds, followed by Mitchell Christian’s Silas Holdeman, a seventh-grader who finished second in 21 minutes, 9 seconds. Bon Homme’s Nate Hall was third (21:28), Wagner’s Lael Young was fourth (21:39) and Mitchell Christian’s Nahum Anderberg was fifth (21:51). Liam Pospisil rounded out the team scoring for Mitchell Christian in ninth place with a time of 22:21.

Bolstered by top runner Emma Thomas, Gregory won the girls race on the team (12 points) and individual fronts.

Thomas, a senior, won the girls race in 21:48, and was followed by Gregory eighth-grader Asia VanDerWerff (23:16). Andes Central/Dakota Christian’s Lexi Schoenfelder (23:19) and Anna DeHaan (23:21) took third and fourth place, followed by Hanson’s Cadence Jarding (23:21), Taziah Hawkins (24:36) and Eliza Oltmanns (24:59) taking the next three places for Hanson, which finished second as a team with 18 points.
