SIOUX FALLS — Chamberlain’s Dom Santiago eighth-place finish at the Nike Heartland Preview race on Saturday, a gathering of elite runners from Minnesota and South Dakota at Yankton Trail Park.

Santiago, a senior, finished in 16 minutes, 45.3 seconds in the 5K race. Rapid City Stevens junior Simeon Birnbaum won the race in 15:33.98. Other area top-50 finishers were Ethan/Parkston sophomore Evan Bartelt, who was 33rd (17:34.33) and Kimball/White Lake freshman Park Sinclair, who was 42nd overall (17:59.39) out of 133 varsity male runners.

In the girls race, Ethan/Parkston senior Lindsey Roth finished in 36th place in a time of 20:40.87. O’Gorman’s Alea Hardie was the race winner in 17:42.53. Other top-50 finishers included Freeman Academy’s Jada Koerner (38th, 20:42.69) and Autumn Baker, of Kimball/White Lake (46th, 20:52.24) in a field of 118 runners.

In the subvarsity races, Ethan/Parkston seventh-grader Morgan Maxwell took third place in the girls junior-varsity race, finishing in a time of 21:31.78 in the 5,000-meter race. Mitchell’s Kennedy Olsen was 16th (23:12.81).

E/P’s Gage Hohn was the top area finisher in the boys junior-varsity race, taking 16th place in 19:27.19. Mitchell sent a team of runners, led by Brock Russell and Elijah Schroeder in the top-35. Russell finished in 19:47.01, while Schroeder crossed the finish line in 19:49.58. T.J. Daley finished in 53rd place (20:30.72), as the Kernels were seventh as a team in the JV run.

In the 3,000-meter middle school girls race, Berkley Ziebart (12:40.46) and Sadie Mueller (12:43.42), of Ethan/Parkston, took ninth and 11th place, respectively. Jayden Digmann, of Ethan/Parkston, was ninth in the middle school boys race (11:37.73).

The follow up meet — the Nike Heartland — will be held Nov. 14 in Sioux Falls and will include runners from seven states.
