BROOKINGS -- Snow moved the Eastern South Dakota Conference cross country meet from Aberdeen to Brookings on Monday and Mitchell High School could not find a way to keep pace in the team standings.

The Kernels placed eighth in the boys standings with 227 points and the girls finished eighth with 238 points. Meanwhile, Aberdeen Central ran away with the boys team championship with 26 points, 28 fewer than second-place Brookings. Brandon Valley took the girls title with 46 points, 34 lower than Harrisburg.

Lucas Moller was the top finisher for the Mitchell boys, finishing 27th in the 71-person field with a time of 18 minutes, 20.1 seconds. Nate McCormick was 60th in 19:52.5, while Brock Russell was 64th in 20:11.6. Grayson Hetland, Dawson Schroeder and Max Hart finished 68th, 69th and 70th, respectively.

Kennedy Olsen paced the Kernel girls with a time of 21:57.1 to place 40th. Alexis Haiar was 57th in 23:33.7, one place ahead of Allie Vermeulen in 23:57.2. Anna Driscoll (25:12.9) was 62nd, Gabby Garrels (25:22.3) was 63rd, Isabelle Busse (27:15.0) was 65th and Mallory Fortin (28:10.6) was 66th.

Aberdeen Central’s Aaron Ryan won the boys race in 16:16.9 and Brookings’ Ellie Abraham took the girls race in 18:36.8.

The Kernels will compete in the Huron Invitational on Thursday.
