Coyotes to meet No. 1 Bison in MVFC matchup

FARGO, N.D. -- The University of South Dakota ends its season Saturday against Football Championship Subdivision No. 1 team North Dakota State University at 2:30 p.m. at the Fargo Dome.

FARGO, N.D. - The University of South Dakota ends its season Saturday against Football Championship Subdivision No. 1 team North Dakota State University at 2:30 p.m. at the Fargo Dome.

The last time USD played the No. 1 team in FCS was 2011. The Coyotes came away with a 30-17 victory.

The Coyotes lead the series, which began in 1903, 40-37. When the two teams met last year and NDSU won the game 54-0.

Coming into Saturday’s contest, USD is led by running back Trevor Bouma and quarterback Kevin Earl.

Bouma has totaled 781 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 164 carries. Earl has completed 155 of 288 passes for 1,819 yards, nine touchdowns and seven interceptions.

True freshman wide receiver Donovan Riley leads USD in receiving yards with 553.

NDSU is led by the two-headed rushing attack of Sam Ojuri and John Crockett.

In 10 games Ojuri has rushed for 884 yards and three touchdowns on 137 carries. Crockett has carried the ball 142 times for 817 yards and eight touchdowns.

Bison quarterback Brock Jensen has completed 149 of 222 passes for 1,846 yards, 24 touchdowns and five interceptions.

South Dakota State (7-4) vs. Youngstown State (8-3) at 1 p.m. in Youngstown, Ohio.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The South Dakota State University Jackrabbits hold a five game winning streak over Youngstown State University.

Saturday at 1 p.m. in Youngstown, Ohio, the Jackrabbits will look to make it six straight wins over the Penguins as they meet in both teams final regular season game.

The last time the two teams played, SDSU came away with a 41-28 win in Brookings.

With playoff implications on the line, SDSU will look to running back Zach Zenner and quarterback Austin Sumner.

Zenner has 1,509 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns on 271 carries. Sumner has completed 195 of 334 passes for 2,458 yards, 16 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Wide receiver Jason Schneider is Sumner’s favorite target. He has hauled in 64 passes for 926 yards and nine touchdowns.

The SDSU defense is led by linebacker R.C. Kilgore, who has registered 111 tackles, one sack and one interception.

Youngstown State is also led by its running back and quarterback.

Running back Martin Ruiz leads the team in rushing with 1,068 yards and 14 touchdowns on 181 carries.

Quarterback Kurt Hess leads the passing attack with 2,091 yards, 21 touchdowns and four interceptions.

Black Hills State University (2-8) vs. Western State (2-8) at 2 p.m. CT in Spearfish.

SPEARFISH - The Black Hills State University Yellow Jackets will look to end the season on a high note with a win over Western State Colorado University Saturday at 2 p.m. CT.

The Yellow Jackets are coming off a 17-14 win over Fort Lewis. The Mountaineers are coming off a 38-13 loss to Colorado State-Pueblo.

BHSU beat Western State last season 21-7.

Coming into the game Saturday the Yellow Jackets are led by quarterback Ward Anderson.

He has completed 225 of 410 passes for 2,481 yards and 15 touchdowns.

The BHSU defense is led by linebacker Trent Boner, who has recorded 117 tackles, 1.5 sacks and forced two fumbles.

Leading the way for the Mustangs is running back Austin Ekeler. In nine games he has rushed for 1,103 yards and seven touchdowns on 182 carries.
