MOORHEAD, Minn. — Winner native Wyatt Turnquist has qualified for his first NCAA Division II national wrestling tournament following a third-place finish at the NCAA Super Region 5 Tournament on Feb. 26, 2022.
A junior at 149 pounds, Turnquist (18-3) qualified for the first NCAA Championships of his career with a 3-1 record and third place finish
He opened his day with a 17-0 technical fall win over Robert Shields of Southwest Minnesota State and advanced to the semifinal round.
Turnquist fell to regional champion Nick Novak in a 7-1 decision in the semifinals and bounced back with back-to-back victories over Shadi Mitwalli (MD 9-1) of Minot State and Kyle Rathman (Dec 5-0) of Minnesota State
Turnquist and teammates Treyton Cacek and Cole Huss will compete in the NCAA Championships on March 11 and 12 in St. Louis, Missouri.
