MITCHELL — After a record-breaking performance, Dakota Wesleyan’s Wyatt Baldauf was tabbed as the Great Plains Athletic Conference’s men’s track athlete of the week for the week of March 27-April 2.

Baldauf, a junior from Seneca, Illinois, broke the school record in the steeplechase with a time of 9:22.84 during the Bobcat Classic in San Marcos, Texas.

That mark was good enough for third at the event and is the top time in the 3000-meter steeplechase in the GPAC and fourth-best in NAIA. It was the fifth school record Baldauf has broken this season. Baldauf was also an indoor national meet qualifier in March for the mile and 3,000-meter races.

The Tigers’ next meet comes Friday, April 7-8 at the USD Early Bird in Vermillion.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "Mitchell Republic." Often, the "Mitchell Republic" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
