MITCHELL — Dakota Wesleyan University's Megan Hinker was named the Great Plains Athletic Conference's women's golfer of the week on Wednesday, March 29.

Hinker, a senior from Lennox, was recognized after tying for the 36-hole lead and finishing second at the Meadowlake Intercolleigate tournament in Enid, Oklahoma on March 20-21, a tournament played in cold and windy conditions.

Hinker shot 81-78 over the two days to finish with a score of 6-over-par 159, tying with Southwestern Christian's (Okla.) Parker Garrett, who went on to win the individual title in a playoff. The Tigers finished fourth as a team in the event.

It is Hinker's third time winning the GPAC weekly award, all occurring in the last 12 months. She won earlier this academic year in October 2022.

DWU women's golf is back in action on April 3-4 at the Hardrocker Invitational

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "Mitchell Republic." Often, the "Mitchell Republic" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
