VERMILLION (AP) - Martin Ruiz scored with 14 seconds remaining to answer a late South Dakota touchdown as Youngstown State sealed a wild 38-34 win Saturday.
Jordan Roberts ran in from 11 yards to give South Dakota a 34-31 lead with two minutes left to play. The Penguins (8-1, 5-0 Missouri Valley Conference) took off down the field with a 10-play, 74-yard drive that was capped off by Ruiz’s three-yard rush into the end zone.
Kurt Hess finished with 283 yards passing for two touchdowns and rushed for another as the Penguins ended with 517 offensive yards. Youngstown State turned the ball over three times - all fumbles - against the Coyotes and fought through seven lead changes to stay undefeated in the MVFC.
South Dakota (4-5, 3-3) capitalized on two Penguin fumbles after taking possession with a 17-yard TD run by QB Kevin Earl and a 40-yard field goal by Miles Bergner.
University of Mary 28, Northern State 14
ABERDEEN -Running back Vince Ferrante had 124 yards to help the University of Mary beat Northern State 28-14 Saturday.
Ferrante also scored two touchdowns on the ground for the Marauders.

U of M quarterback Craig Bagnell completed 25 of 36 passes for 282 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Wide receivers Elby Pope and Nick Jolliffe each caught touchdowns passes for the Marauders, who are 5-4.
Northern State was led by Jared Jacobsen. The junior quarterback completed 22 of 47 passes for 167 yards and one touchdown. He ran for another 45 yards.
Running back Seam Schweichler added 62 yards on the ground for the Wolves.
NSU (3-6) plays Minnesota-Crookston Saturday in Crookston, Minn.
Augustana College 24, University of Concordia-St. Paul 7
SIOUX FALLS - The Augustana College Vikings earned their fourth win of the season Saturday as they beat the Northern Star Intercollegiate Conference foe University of Concordia- St. Paul 24-7.
Augustana quarterback Trey Heid had 58 rushing yards and 101 passing yards to lead the way for the Vikings.
Wide receiver Matt Gerry and running back Dajon Newell were Augustana’s leading receivers. Gerry hauled in three passes for 47 yards, while Newell had three catches for 37 yards.
Defensive back Chad Curry and linebacker Ben Skelly each grabbed interceptions for the Vikings, while Tanner Foth led Augustana in tackles and sacks. The senior defensive lineman recorded seven tackles and two sacks.

University of Jamestown 49, Presentation College 41
JAMESTOWN, N.D. - In a back and forth game, the Jimmies of Jamestown topped Presentation College 49-41 Saturday in Jamestown, N.D.
The Saints (5-4) were led by running back Devin Mohn, who rushed for 187 yards on 34 carries and found the end zone twice.
Paris Shaw led the Presentation receiving corps with seven catches for 162 yards and a touchdown.
The Saints wrap up their 2013 regular season against Menlo College at 10 a.m. Saturday in Atherton, Cali.
Black Hills State 48, New Mexico Highlands 45
LAS VEGAS, N.M. - The Black Hills State University football team’s won its first game of the season Saturday 48-45 against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponent New Mexico Highlands.
Christian Parr hit the game winning field goal with 3 minutes and 46 seconds left to go in the game for BHSU.
The Yellow Jackets picked up 22 first downs, while rushing for 127 yards as a team and throwing for 273.

BHSU quarterback completed 21-of-35 passes for 273 yards and two touchdowns, while running back Trent Butler rushed 15 times for 64 yards and a touchdown.
New Mexico Highlands quarterback Emmanuel Lewis threw for 294 yards and four touchdowns.
BHSU (1-7) hosts Western New Mexico Saturday at 2 p.m. CT in Spearfish.
Fort Hays State University 63, SD School of Mines & Technology 17
HAYS, Kan. - Fort Hays State University beat South Dakota School of Mines & Technology 63-17 Saturday.
Treveon Albert completed 11-of-20 passes for 247 yards two touchdowns to lead the way for Fort Hays. Albert’s go-to receiver was Keaton Callins, who caught six passes for 109 yards and a touchdown.
Edward Smith had 72 yards on the ground for Fort Hays as well.
SD Mines was led by linebacker Lucas Riebe, who finished with six tackles, including one for loss. Hardrocker quarterback Evan Sanders was 22-for 33 for 190 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
SD Mines run game was paced by Kevin Thompson and De’Andre Bolden.

Thompson rushed 19 times for 69 yards, while Bolden had 63 yards on 13 carries.
Upper Iowa 30, University of Sioux Falls 28
FAYETTE, Iowa - Upper Iowa Running back Chris Smith ran for 258 yards and three touchdowns in in a 30-28 Peacock win over the University of Sioux Falls Saturday in Fayette, Iowa.
The Cougars (5-4, 3-2) turned to wide receiver Carrington Hanna to take the snaps at quarterback again with starting quarterback Luke Papilion still sidelined.
Hanna finished with 298 yards on 34-of-50 passing and two touchdowns in the loss for USF.
Cougar running back Nephi Garcia failed to reach the 100-yard mark for the first time since opening week of the season. Garcia finished with 82 yards on 25 carries and one score.
USF plays Minnesota State University at 1 p.m. Saturday in Sioux Falls.
Mayville State 20, Dakota State 14
MAYVILLE, N.D. - The Dakota State football team dropped its season finale 20-14 to Mayville State Saturday in Mayville, N.D.
The Trojans (2-8) finished the inaugural North Star Athletic Association conference schedule 2-2.

Quarterback Cole Whisenhunt finished with 159 yards on 12-of-30 passing and two touchdowns for DSU in the loss. He also ran 11 times for 36 yards.
Zach Ely led the Trojan receiving corps with four catches for 74 yards and both DSU scores.
