ABERDEEN - No. 1 ranked St. Thomas More scored just five points in the second half of its game Tuesday with No. 2 ranked Mount Vernon/Plankinton but it was enough to hold off the Titans 33-27 at the Cavalier Christmas Classic at the Aberdeen Civic Arena.
The game was an early season clash between the two top teams in Class A, according to the South Dakota Sportswriters' Association poll and both teams were semifinalists at the Class A state tournament in 2015.
MV/P (5-1) was down 26-12 at halftime before clawing its way back into the game. Megan Bultsma had 10 points to lead the Titans and Ashley Glanzer added eight points in the loss.
Ciara Duffy had 13 points for the Cavaliers to lead all scorers and Dru Gylten had eight points for STM (5-1).
The Titans host Platte-Geddes on Tuesday in Plankinton.
