NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- John Witte’s breakout season with Carleton College was capped with a nod to the CoSIDA Academic all-district team.
The sophomore from Wessington Springs posted a 3.39 GPA to make a team comprised of NCAA Division III football schools from Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
On the field, Witte led the Carleton defense with five sacks and led all defensive linemen with 42 tackles, while starting the final three games of the season.
The 6-foot, 200-pound defensive end’s sack total accounted for half of the season total for the Knights and placed sixth in the Minnesota Interscholastic Athletic Conference.
Carleton finished the season 4-6.

Augie’s Sees is sharp in two outings
SIOUX FALLS -- Lauren Sees’ collegiate basketball career is off to a hot start.
The Avon native has hit double figures during her first two games at Augustana University to help the Vikings to a 2-0 start.
Sees started both games, averaging 13.5 points per game 55.6 percent shooting over 25 minutes per game. The freshman guard has also hit 4 of 7 3-pointers. She scored 15 points on 6-for-11 shooting, including 3 of 4 from beyond the arc in a win over Midland on Tuesday.
Augustana hosts Mount Marty on Friday in Sioux Falls.
Koepsell finds early success at Dakota State
MADISON -- Former McCook Central/Montrose standout Morgan Koepsell is beginning to find her footing at Dakota State.
In her first season after transferring from Black Hills State, Koepsell is averaging 10.8 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.2 blocks through six games for the Trojans.
The 6-foot-2 Canova native leads the team with 41 total rebounds and 13 blocks, including a 14-point, nine-rebound, five-block outing against McPherson (Kansas) on Nov. 9.
Koepsell has post nine rebounds in back-to-back wins and has recorded four double-digit scoring performances on 56.3 percent shooting.
