Mitchell native and South Dakota State University senior Andrea Budahl recorded a sixth-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle Nov. 15 against the Big Ten’s Nebraska and Iowa in Lincoln.
Budahl finished with a time of 5 minutes, 14.67 seconds and finished seventh in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:58.92. Trina Young, another Mitchell native and a junior for the Jacks, competed in the 100-yard butterfly in the meet, finishing in eighth place with a time of 1:01.60.
The SDSU swim team is off until Dec. 6-7 when it travels to Minneapolis for the Jean Freeman Invite.
- SDSU sophomore Zach Horstman, a former standout for the Winner Warriors, scored six points and grabbed three rebounds in 20 minutes of action for the Jacks against Texas Tech University Nov. 21 in Lubbock, Texas. SDSU lost the contest 68-54.
The Jackrabbits (3-4, 0-0 Summit) travel to Santa Barbara, Calif., to take on University of California-Santa Barbara today and Stanford University Monday in Palo Alto, Calif.
- Four area athletes from the University of Sioux Falls were named to the 2013 NSIC fall all-academic team, which was announced by the league Nov. 22. Thad Campbell, of Platte, and Tait Johannsen, of Wagner, both juniors on the Cougar football team, along with Kellee Griese, a sophomore, and Emily Johnson, a junior, who are both members of the USF volleyball team and graduates of Platte High School, were all named to the exclusive list.
To be eligible for this honor, the student-athlete must be a member of the varsity traveling team, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better and must have at least a sophomore athletic standing.
