DELL RAPIDS -- Dell Rapids St. Mary’s smothering defense guided it to a 50-32 win over the Mitchell Christian girls basketball team on Tuesday.
The Cardinals (1-0) held MCS to single-digits in all four quarters. They led 15-9 at the end of the first quarter, and then extended it to 28-18 by halftime.
Ella Heinitz scored 15 points, while Ella Griffin recorded 12 points and eight rebounds for DRSM. Courtney Brown chipped in eight points and 10 rebounds in the win.
Audrey Hofer scored a game-high 19 points for Mitchell Christian. Maggie Reynen added five points.
Mitchell Christian (1-2) hosts Kimball/White Lake on Thursday.
