Runners braved wintry-weather conditions during the inaugural Palace City Kiwanis Half Marathon on Sunday.
Light snow fell in front of the Corn Palace as runners prepped for the 13.1-mile race, but they still packed the streets and 162 competitors finished the run on a chilly morning.
The race began and finished in front of the Corn Palace. The run started on the downtown streets and included a lap around Lake Mitchell.
There were 119 women finishers and 43 men finishers. Mitchell's Thomas Madut was the men's top finisher and had best time overall. He covered the distance in 1-hour, 17-minutes and 14.51 seconds. Mitchell's Shane Warren (1:30:34.99) and Scott Loecker (1:32:21.98) finished second and third, respectively, in the men's race.
Boulder, Colorado's Kristen Mohror (1:24:49.75) had the best time in the women's field. Sioux Falls' Lexi Cacaro (1:37:30.86) and Watertown's Jody Clark (1:45:03.07) took second and third, respectively, in the women's race.
