FREEMAN -- The Bridgewater-Emery boys' track and field team has high expectations for senior Coleman Haiar at this year's Class B state tournament.
Haiar won four individual events at Thursday's Cornbelt Conference track and field meet and has qualified for the state meet in all four events.
He won the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.18 seconds, the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.64 seconds, the 300 hurdles with a time of 42.40 seconds and the triple jump with a mark of 40 feet, 9 inches.
Bridgewater-Emery track coach David Eich is looking forward to seeing Haiar compete at state. On Thursday, the Bridgewater-Emery boys claimed the Cornbelt Conference team championship with 196 points, 40 points ahead of second-place Freeman.
"We're hoping to get 25 to 30 points out of him at the state meet," Eich said.

The top eight places in each event collect team points at state, with 10 points being the maximum amount an athlete can collect in a single event.
"We'd like for him to win both hurdles," Eich said. "His hurdles have really come along."
Last year, Haiar finished third at the state meet in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.96 seconds -- which was .32 seconds slower than his time at the conference meet Thursday.
This year marked the first time Haiar has competed in the 300 hurdles.
"The first few track meets that I did the 300 hurdles, I didn't know what the heck I was doing," Haiar said. "As the season has gone on, I've finally figured out what to do. Once you get it down, it's pretty easy to get faster times."
Eich said he has been impressed with Haiar's ability to compete in all four events, especially with one of them being the triple jump.
"The triple jump is really hard to do every week, because it's so painful on the legs," Eich said. "He's got a couple nagging injuries that this time of year everybody does. We're just going to have to run through it and hope everything turns out well."
Haiar -- who had an icepack on his back during an interview with The Daily Republic -- said he hasn't been too bothered by soreness this season.

"As long as I get rest and drink a lot of water between events, I'm fine," Haiar said. "On off days, I rest and stretch. I try not to put a lot of strain on my body other than in the meets."
Haiar still has the Region 4B track and field meet set for 9:30 a.m. Thursday in Centerville before he competes at the Class B state meet, which is scheduled for May 25 and 26 in Rapid City.
