Brandon Valley sweeps Mitchell black after Game 1 lead evaporates


BRANDON -- Mitchell Black was stunned by Brandon Valley on a come-from-behind walk-off win in the first game of a doubleheader and then got blanked in the second game on Wednesday in teener baseball action.

Brandon Valley scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to hand Mitchell a 7-6 loss in Game 1 and then recorded a 10-0 win in Game 2.

Mitchell doubled Brandon Valley’s hit total in Game 1 with 14, but committed three errors, the final one allowing the game-winning run to advance to third base. Brandon Valley won the game on a fielder’s choice during the ensuing at-bat.

In the third inning, Mitchell started the scoring with five runs on six hits, but Brandon Valley rebounded with five runs in the fifth on a pair of errors. Tanner Pruetz gave Mitchell the lead in the top of the seventh on an RBI single.

Dylan Soulek went 4-for-4 in the game, while five Mitchell players recorded an RBI. Peyton Schroder did not allow an earned run in 4 2/3 innings, surrendering six hits and striking out three batters.


In Game 2, Brandon Valley scored six runs in the second inning, while Mitchell managed four hits in the game, two from A.J. Siemsen.

Noah Larson gave up six earned runs on seven hits in four innings and struck out three batters.

Mitchell (10-23-2) returns to the diamond on Friday with a 5 p.m. doubleheader at Sioux Falls East.
