CORSICA -- Corsica-Stickney rolled past the Mitchell Christian boys basketball team, 87-42, on Tuesday.

The Jaguars extended an 18-13 first-quarter lead to 42-21 by halftime, as they scored 24 points in the second frame. Corsica-Stickney topped 20 points in each of the last three quarters.

“We were a little short-handed with some injuries and illnesses, but was really proud with how the kids competed,” MCS coach Jesse Tolsma said. “We’re working on becoming a really good defensive team. Could’ve been a little stronger on that end, but I thought we came out and competed.”

Corsica-Stickney’s size and physicality caused problems for the Golden Eagles. Trever Burke paced the Jaguars with 27 points and five assists in the win. Brendan Wentland added 20 points and five assists, while Jaylen Kemp dished out 13 points and five assists.

“They’re a physical team,” Tolsma said. “On the offensive end, they were able to get a couple of easy ones either from the high post or a kick-out.”
