HASTINGS, Neb.. -- The No. 9 Dakota Wesleyan University men’s basketball team didn’t have an answer for Hastings (Neb.)’s late run. The Broncos ended the game on a 19-12 run to upset DWU, 70-62, on Saturday in Great Plains Athletic Conference play.

Ty Hoglund’s basket with 10 minutes, 18 seconds to play cut DWU’s deficit to one point, 51-50. But Hastings scored the next eight points, and Logan Cale’s 3-pointer gave it a double-digit lead, 62-52, with 6:15 to play. The Tigers never got closer than eight points again.

Mason Hiemstra scored six points in the final 10:18 en route to a game-high 27 points for the Broncos. He made 9 of 16 shots, while going 7-for-9 at the free-throw line, but they had a plethora of scorers.

Cale finished with 11 points, Bart Hiscock added 14 points, 15 rebounds and two steals, and Brendan Lipovsky scored 12 points.

DWU held Hastings to 41.1 percent shooting and forced 14 turnovers, but it couldn’t jumpstart its own offense. The Tigers finished shooting 35.9 percent from the field and 7-for-23 from beyond the arc, resulting in a 38-24 halftime deficit.

Mason Larson scored 19 points and Hoglund added 16 on 6-for-17 shooting. Collin Kramer added a team-high nine rebounds, but Hastings outrebounded DWU, 47-39.

DWU (21-8, 13-7) hosts Jamestown (N.D.) in the fourth round of the GPAC tournament at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Corn Palace.
