HASTINGS, Neb. -- Shooting struggles hampered the Dakota Wesleyan University women’s basketball team on Saturday. The No. 13 Tigers shot 39.3 percent and 1-for-15 from 3-point range in an 80-52 loss to No. 4 Hastings (Neb.) in the regular-season finale.

Sarah Carr scored a team-high 18 points and Alexandria native Kynedi Cheeseman added 12 points, but no other Tigers reached double figures. In fact, their starters were rested for the second half of the fourth quarter.

The Broncos took a 62-46 lead into the fourth, and proceeded to go on an 11-2 run. DWU was held to six points in the fourth, as they didn’t reach 20 points in any quarter.

Hastings capitalized by making 11 3-pointers and grabbing 17 offensive rebounds to take a quick lead. It led 19-12 after the first quarter and 42-28 at halftime. The Broncos built a nine-point lead within the first five minutes of the contest.

Their 3s and scoring came from a bevy of players. Emma Grenfell, Sophia Pankratz and Taylor Beacom all hit a pair of 3s during the Broncos’ 11-for-23 shooting day from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, seven players scored at least seven points in the win, including Grenfell’s team-high 15 points and Shandra Farmer and Pankratz each adding 13 points.

Jessica Mieras scored eight points, while Cheeseman and Karst grabbed seven and six rebounds, respectively. Karst also dished out four assists.

DWU (20-10, 13-9) travels to Dordt (Iowa) in the first round of the GPAC tournament on Wednesday in Sioux Center, Iowa.
