YANKTON -- The basket looked like an ocean for Kynedi Cheeseman on Wednesday.

The Alexandria native scored in every way imaginable for the No. 13 Dakota Wesleyan University women’s basketball team, setting a new career-high with 35 points in a 74-66 win over Mount Marty in Great Plains Athletic Conference action at Laddie E. Cimpl Arena.

Cheeseman shot 9 of 16 from the field and 16-for-19 from the free-throw line for the game, while also adding seven rebounds, four assists and three steals as the Tigers won their third consecutive game.

DWU (19-8, 12-7 GPAC) trailed Mount Marty 37-36 at halftime despite 20 first-half points from Cheeseman, but Cheeseman scored eight points, while Kamryn Heinz and Plankinton native Makaela Karst scored five points apiece in the third quarter to regain the lead.

Clinging to a 58-55 lead early in the fourth quarter, the Tigers went 4-for-4 from the line and Karst tacked on another jumper to push the lead to nine with 4 minutes, 39 seconds to play in the game and DWU would lead by as many as 10 down the stretch to seal the win.

Karst finished with nine points, nine rebounds and two blocks, while Kaylee Kirk had six points, six steals and five rebounds. Sarah Carr was limited to seven points on 3 of 8 shooting.

Jamie Tebben led Mount Marty (13-13, 7-12) with 19 points, eight rebounds and three steals, while Hannah Williams added 17 points and seven rebounds. Wagner alumna Ali Kuca had six points on 0 of 4 shooting from beyond the 3-point line, while Tabor native Bailey Kortan had three points and four assists.

The Lancers were held to 4-for-25 from long distance and shot 35.6 percent from the field overall.

DWU travels to Doane at 2 p.m. on Saturday in Crete, Nebraska.
