FREMONT, Neb. -- Midland University had no answer for Mason Larson on Sunday.

The Dakota Wesleyan University sophomore entered the game averaging 3.8 points per game, but scored 15 of his career-high 23 points in the second half to lead the Tigers to a 73-59 win in Great Plains Athletic Conference men’s basketball action.

Larson went 7-for-8 from the field -- 3 of 3 from 3-point range -- and 6 of 7 from the free-throw line to lead No. 10 DWU (17-3, 9-2 GPAC), which gained a 32-25 advantage at halftime by holding Midland to 34.6 percent shooting. Larson has now scored in double figures in three of the last four games after scoring no more than nine points in a game in the previous 16 outings.

Koln Oppold scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Ty Hoglund had 14 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Jeffrey Schuch also came off the bench to score 10 points for the Tigers, who shot 56.4 percent for the game and went 24 of 28 from the free-throw line.

Emanuel Bryson was the lone Warrior to hit double-digits scoring, posting 21 points, seven rebounds and four assists off the bench. Leading scorers Laurence Merritt and Bowen Sandquist were limited to a combined 13 points on 5 of 20 shooting after entering the game averaging 16.6 and 14.7 points, respectively. Midland (7-12, 3-9 GPAC) also lost the rebounding battle 27-19.

DWU returns to action against Hastings at 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Corn Palace.
