PIERRE-Sanborn Central/Woonsocket couldn't recover from a slow start on Tuesday.

No. 1 seed White River (20-2) jumped out to a 13-point first-quarter lead and never stopped, defeating the No. 16 seed Blackhawks, 72-59, to advance to the Class B boys basketball state tournament, which starts on March 14 in Aberdeen.

Tyson Iyotte and Teron Sazue combined to score 13 of the Tigers' 23 points in the opening quarter, helping them jump out to a 23-10 lead. Iyotte led the team with 17 points, while Sazue didn't score in the fourth but still finished with 16.

While SCW's (14-9) offense found momentum and scored at least 15 points in each of the final three periods, it had no answer for White River's multiple offensive weapons. Izaiah Sorace and Nick Sayler both scored 10. Jadice Morrison and Luke Wells added nine and eight points, respectively, as well.

The balanced attack resulted in White River leading 42-27 at halftime and 58-44 heading into the fourth.

The Blackhawks' offense got going once it started to find success from beyond the arc. They hit six 3-pointers, including Tater Moody and Malachi Bruce both draining a pair. Moody finished with 14 points, though Noah Dickson scored a team-best 17 points. Spens Schlicht also added 12 in the loss.
